About Lacey Lewis School of Realist Art

Lacey Lewis School of Realist Art offers classes and lessons focused on realistic drawing and painting techniques, with a strong emphasis on figurative subjects and portraiture. In addition to private lessons, semi-private group lessons, and classes, Lacey Lewis School of Realist Art also offers drop-in figurative life drawing sessions that are open to the public.

All instruction is provided by Lacey Lewis, a recognized figurative painter who has been teaching her craft for 10 years. Lewis describes her teaching methods as "Classical Atelier Inspired," combining elements of traditional techniques with more contemporary concepts. She believes that incorporating a variety of philosophies in her teaching gives her students multiple tools to choose from when solving visual problems.

Lacey Lewis opened Red Door Studios in 2009 and moved to its current location in Kansas City's West Bottoms in 2011. As a figurative painter, Lewis wanted a space that was conducive to drawing and painting from life and she found that in a 750 sq ft north light studio.

Lewis is sought out for her expertise in painting and drawing the figure but also instructs beginning through advanced students in still life, landscape, and all aspects of realistic drawing and painting. Most work in the studio is done in charcoal or oil paint though graphite, pen and ink, acrylic, watercolor, and pastel are also media of study.
