Drawing and Painting Art Classes and Workshops
Upcoming Classes - Registration Open
Six Lessons Online
This class walks you step-by-step through understanding, mixing, and utilizing color across any medium and subject matter. Lessons progress sequentially with exercises for each concept that help you quickly master color mixing, color composition, and control of form.
October 25th at 7:00pm
There is no fee for admittance but I do recommend that you donate to the museum!
We will primarily look at work in the European and American sections, and primarily portraiture and figurative work. I will highlight some specific concepts you can implement in your own work to create more lifelike human images and allow opportunities for you to ask questions about the paintings.
2 Day Workshop
Saturday and Sunday October 26th and 27th, 12pm-5pm
$200 per student, *materials provided
Learn to create vibrant skin tones with only FOUR pigments: Red, Green, Black, and White in this two day workshop. With just these four paints, it's possible to give the illusion of all hues of skin tones whether more yellow, orange, pink, or cooler blues and greens.
6 Week Class
Tuesdays 6:30-8:30pm at InterUrban ArtHouse
November 5th through December 10th
Fee per student: $250 includes all materials
This class is great for beginners as well as for artists who want to increase the sense of depth, form, and accuracy in their drawings or paintings.
6 Week Class
Wednesdays 6-8:30pm Nov 6th through Dec 11th
Lacey Lewis will teach a 6 week class where she shares her approach to drawing the nude figure from life in charcoal. Students will learn many ways to dynamically view and analyze the figure to achieve accurate proportions without overly relying on height and width measurements.
Possible Future Classes: Pre-Registration Available
Pre-Registration is a way for us to gauge interest in particular classes. There is no commitment to join the class once scheduled, but pre-registering will influence which classes we offer. All who pre-register will be given an advanced opportunity to sign-up.
Other classes and workshops are offered on a rotating basis. Subjects of study include:
Portrait drawing and painting
Life drawing and human anatomy for artists
Skin tone palettes
Alla prima still life painting
All classes are taught by Lacey Lewis and take place at Red Door Studios in Kansas City, unless otherwise noted. Lacey periodically teaches in other locations and is available to travel for workshops. Feel free to contact us if you'd like a class option not listed!
