Learn to translate what you see onto canvas in the form of realistic portraits.

The world is currently dominated by not only photographic imagery, but by AI imagery, too. What sets your work apart is that it reflects what your human eyes see, and that's vastly different than camera or computer generated art.

But if you've ever tried to draw or paint from live models before, you know it's easier said than done! In order to truly be able to paint what you see, you have to understand what you see.

After taking this class you will have a deep understanding of how human vision works and how it's different than what a camera sees. Your paintings from any kind of reference will be transformed!

Week 1: Focus on Value
Understanding how to group lights and shadows to show the form of a face is the most essential skill in realistic painting. You'll learn how to understand light logic and create convincing depth.

Week 2: Skin Tone Intensive
This week you'll learn how to mix any complexion with a simple palette, as well as how to create realism by identifying complex hues (reds, yellows, even blues!) in layers of skin.

Week 3: Nailing Proportions
Now that you are versed in form and color, you'll learn how to get the placement of the features under control through sculpting the head in paint.

Week 4: Details Without Ruining It!
How many times have you added the final strokes only to feel like it was better an hour eariler? Learn how to see details as a smaller form of the whole, and which details are better left out.
